Hi list,

My Tivoli Storage Manager is on WINDOWS 2003 SP1.

There is a return code 12 error on my TSM server. I have search in vain for this error, but to no avail.
Please help to advise on what causes this error code.

09/30/07 14:45:17 ANS1115W File
'/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmwebcl.log' excluded by Include/Exclude list

09/30/07 14:45:17 ANS1115W File

'/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmsched.log' excluded by Include/Exclude list

09/30/07 14:50:36 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'HP_ES-MFG_MONTHLY' failed.
Return code = 12.

END OF DATA

Normal File--> 17,716 /home/eltech/sin/esbuy10/0512 [Sent]
Normal File--> 895 /home/eltech/sin/esbuy10/0602 [Sent]

I have temporarily stop the TSM backup.

Thank you in advanced.

If you are getting RC-12, that normally means the backup operation took at
least one error (messages ending in "E"). I don't see that in the log
snippet you posted. The ANS1115W messages just mean those files were not
backed up because your include/exclude list said they should not be backed
up, which is sensible since they are TSM log files.

Usually, TSM error messages are pretty easy to pick out of the client log
file. Do you see any other errors in the client backup log?

Hi,

Any idea what these messages mean.

Daily Report Afternoon 2 TSM 24 hour Report for SGMLAPPS10 generated at

Server name: SGMLAPPS10_SERVER1, platform: Windows, version: 5.3.4.0,
date/time: 09/30/2007 16:30:42

Issues and Recommendations
--------------------------

There are not enough scratch volumes available. Condition (0 < 5)
Recommendation: Check in some scratch tapes.

The number of unavailable volumes is too high Condition (17 > 2)
Recommendation: Issue: Q LIBVOL F=D at a TSM command prompt for details.

I'd say you are out of scratch tapes in your library. If you are backing up
directly to tape, then once the current volumes are full you may be out of
space. If you are backing up to disk pools and then flushing them to tape,
at some point that process will start to fail once your tapes are full and
there is no more room in the disk pool(s). You will need to either check in
some more scratch tapes, if you have available slots, or use expiration and
reclamation
to free up some tape volumes. You may have to adjust your data retention
values if your tape storage is limited.

You also are showing a lot of unavailable volumes, which could indicate that
they took I/O errors. It's possible that you really have that many bad
tapes, but it's also possible you have a bad tape drive that is taking r/w
errors. When that happens, the tape it currently has mounted is normally
marked 'unavailable' since TSM doesn't know if the problem is the tape or
the drive.

If your tape library has diagnostic logs, you could check there. You might
also try cleaning the drives. You may also find some useful information in
the TSM activity log, although some libraries are better than others at
communicating with TSM.
